Years ago, when they were both Jedi apprentices, Ferus Olin and Anakin Skywalker were rivals. Now, their paths are about to cross again...
Abandoning the Jedi order saved Ferus's life. As a result, he is the only one who can track down and save Jedi who have survived the rise of the Empire. He has rebellion on his mind, and hopes to bring about the fall of the Emperor.
Only Darth Vader stands in his way. Ferus may not realize it, but his old rival is now his new deadly enemy.

This story occurs between approximately six to seven months after the events of Revenge of the Sith (18 and a half years before the Battle of Yavin).

Review by Bones, UK, 2012:

"Ferus Olin has agreed to work for the Emperor and in doing has become a double agent. The Emperor sees him as a potential ally in the Sith - one to be turned - whilst Vader wants to remove him as an obstacle.
"As with all previous volumes in the Last of the Jedi series, Return of the Dark Side follows on immediately. This series is one long story arc, allowing Watson to expand the complexity of her storytelling. There are many twists and turns along the way, characters and plot lines veering towards each other then suddenly diverging again, other times running parallel or colliding, but all the while you are kept guessing at what is actually going to happen. The suspense of this series is much greater than before because of this uncertainty. This volume in particular stands above its predecessors in this regard due to the unforeseen events at the end of the book (no spoilers, but it certainly isn't how I expected things to end). The finale of Return of the Dark Side is significantly more sinister than I would have imagined in a young readers' book.
"The main character of Ferus Olin is developed well by Watson, but I'm beginning to feel that Trever Flume could do with more attention, given how important he seems to be (or more precisely, given how often he turns up).
"A stalwart effort by Watson and I can't wait to see what the next one has in store."
