Synopsis:
Darth Plagueis: one of the most brilliant Sith Lords who
ever lived. Possessing power is all he desires. Losing
it is the only thing he fears. As an apprentice, he
embraces the ruthless ways of the Sith. And when the
time is right, he destroys his Master—but vows never
to suffer the same fate. For like no other disciple of
the dark side, Darth Plagueis learns to command the
ultimate power . . . over life and death.
Darth Sidious: Plagueis’s chosen apprentice. Under the
guidance of his Master, he secretly studies the ways of
the Sith, while publicly rising to power in the galactic
government, first as Senator, then as Chancellor, and
eventually as Emperor.
Darth Plagueis and Darth Sidious, Master and acolyte,
target the galaxy for domination—and the Jedi Order
for annihilation. But can they defy the merciless Sith
tradition? Or will the desire of one to rule supreme,
and the dream of the other to live forever, sow the
seeds of their destruction?

Review by Darth Kondorr, Poland, 2014: |

"It
amazes me how great the literature for the time period of The
Phantom Menace is. I liked the movie, but it WAS a
disappointment. I...We (!) expected more from the return of the Jedi
to the cinemas. But back on topic: "In here you have the story of
Darth Sidious and his master Darth Plagueis. We get to see how they
both manipulate and scheme themselves to the very top of the food
chain, it is a political thriller mostly, but it is not dull... it
is fascinating. You get to know not only the real story of Star
Wars, but you get the insight into so many Sith-teachings, it is
almost frightening. There are a lot of surprises in this book, a lot
of known events take on different shapes and at the same time this
story holds all the other material tying into the first movie
together. "It is
recommended (although not necessary) to read
Cloak of Deception,
Darth Maul - Shadow Hunter,
Darth Maul - Saboteur,
Darth Maul by Ron Marz and
Jedi Council - Acts of War,
because those stories are often referenced. Actually there is a lot
of name dropping, especially for the period of Darth Bane and
before, but these books are less required, because even to our main
anti-heroes, these times are very ominous and legendary (I am not
saying you should not read them, I am saying you do not need them to
get the whole picture). "All in all maybe my favorite Star Wars
book of all time, topping even
The Thrawn Trilogy,
which has tremendous sentimental value to me! This is required
reading if you like Star Wars."
