Book News: Coming soon - The
Jedi Path by Daniel Wallace:
Posted: 23rd January
(UPDATED: 24th February)
Affiliate Eddie van der
Heijden of StarWarsTimeline.com
has discovered an interesting entry in Becker&Mayer's
recent catalogue for a 160 page book by Daniel Wallace titled The
Jedi Path. It is described as "handed down through
generations, this venerable text reveals the history and training
practices of a Jedi Knight - progressing from Youngling to Padawan,
to Knight, and ultimately to Master. The ancient text is annotated
with comments from Jedi-in-training through the ages along with
notes, drawings, and objects they have left tucked in the pages".
The book will also include several items including a Jedi Code
poster, student’s map of the Jedi Temple, lightsaber diagram, Jedi
Starfighter patch, severed Padawan braid, and a commemorative
JedCred.
Not much is known about this book with some speculation that The
Jedi Path may be linked to Amazon.co.uk's listing for
The
Jedi Handbook
from DK Publishing due March 2011 (also listed on Borders.com ).
However, as Becker&Mayer sell the rights to their
publications to other publishers, i.e. the catalogue also lists the
forthcoming Star Wars
Sounds by J. W. Rinzler which will be published by Chronicle
Books, according to Becker&Mayer, the rights for The
Jedi Path have been sold to Amazon not DK
Publishing.
More news as we get it.
(Source: Becker&Mayer
(PDF - 3.5Mb) via StarWarsTimeline.com )
UPDATE:
Daniel Wallace, author of The Jedi Path, has confirmed
the existence of this book on his weblog
and goes on to tease us with "the catalog
(opens PDF - 3.5Mb) copy gives the tiniest hint of how much fun this
book has been to put together, and I promise to post more
behind-the-scenes details as the release date gets closer."

Book News: Two new The Clone
Wars children's books discovered on Amazon:
Posted: 24th February
Affiliate Eddie van der
Heijden of StarWarsTimeline.com
has discovered new listings on Amazon.com for two new The
Clone Wars children's books from publisher Grosset and Dunlap
due this Autumn.
The first is a 14-page hardcover pop-up book titled Villains ,
the second is a 160-page paperback written by Rob Valois titled Defenders
of the Republic .
While little is known about the content of these two titles, it is
probable that Villains
is a sequel to Heroes
pop-up book released last September; and if Defenders
of the Republic is indeed 160-pages long then it may either
be the next US Decide Your Destiny title or perhaps
the next collection of adapted TV series episode stories, similar to
the Grievous
Attacks paperback released in February 2009. More news as we
receive it.

Book & Comic News: New Old
Republic comic and book series from KotOR's John Jackson Miller:
Posted: 10th February
StarWars.com
has published a press release from Dark Horse Comics and Del
Rey regarding a new comic and book series from Knights
of the Old Republic writer John Jackson Miller: Dark Horse
Comics and Del Rey Books are collaborating to tell all new Star Wars
stories in a previously unexplored timeframe, and they're turning to
fan favorite author John Jackson Miller to shed light on some of the
darkest times of the Galactic Republic. Readers are familiar with
Miller's work on the recently completed Knights of the Old Republic
comic series, and the Lost Tribe of the Sith novellas.
Under the series title of Star Wars: Knight Errant, this
story will first arrive as an ongoing comic series published by Dark
Horse Comics later this year. Then, next year, Del Rey will publish
a Knight Errant novel, also written by Miller, featuring an
all-new adventure.
The story takes place more than 1,000 years before the events of A
New Hope, during the Dark Age of the Republic when the Sith
were powerful. It's more than a generation before Sith in-fighting
led to the rise of Darth Bane, and his restrictive "rule of
two" that restructured the order to operate in the shadows. In
this timeframe, the Republic is in shambles, crippled by plague and
war, and the Sith are dominant.
Miller's stories will not only explore the complex schemes of
competing Sith Lords, including families trying to hold onto power
and position amid the threats of ambitious rivals, but also the
struggle of a valiant few Jedi willing to face the enemy head-on, in
systems and sectors that the Republic has abandoned.
"While the Jedi are doing their best to keep order in what
remains of the Republic, those living in this crazy-quilt of Sith
dominions are in constant danger," Miller said. "If their
abusive rulers weren't bad enough, constant internal warfare means
no place is safe. Knight Errant asks what it means to be a Jedi
outside the Republic, in a time and place where no other hope
exists. I've greatly enjoyed working with Dark Horse and Del Rey on
KOTOR and Lost Tribe, and I'm really excited about the opportunity
to develop a new part of the timeline in two media at once."

Comic Release: New Star Wars
comics will "focus specifically on a single main character":
Posted: 1st February
Randy Stradley, Dark Horse Comics' Editor, has indicated on
the Dark
Horse Message Boards
that their next Star Wars comics series/project will "focus
specifically on a single main character". In a post asking
whether Dark Horse Comics have considered a character-focused
comic series (the example given was Star Wars: Luke Skywalker)
rather than an era focused series so that "rotating sets of
creators, [could] each bring their own flavor to their story.
You could even jump around the timeline if you really wanted to";
Randy replied "I'm not opposed to this idea [...], but
it's a little late in the game to start something with any of the
main characters from the films, given that the characters from the
OT now have thirty-some years of continuity under their belts."
Randy goes on to write: "However, I am so NOT opposed to the
idea that I might mention that we have at least a couple new things
in the works which focus specifically on a single main character --
one of whom you may even have heard of before."
This confirms that Dark Horse Comics are working on new Star
Wars comic series to replace Knights
of the Old Republic (last ever issue, #50, is released later
this month) and The
Clone Wars series which ended last month after just 12 issues.
