Book News: New book release
schedule from LucasBooks:
Posted: 14th August
LucasBooks' Executive Editor, Sue Rostoni, has published a
new novels US release schedule for the rest of 2009, 2010 and 2011.
In summary: Fate of the
Jedi books 5 thru 9 of have had their release dates moved back
by on average 5 months per title, book 7 of Fate
of the Jedi will be titled Conviction; the sequel to Clone
Wars Gambit: Stealth by Karen Miller will be Gambit:
Siege; Death
Troopers author Joe Schreiber has been contracted to write
another Star Wars horror novel (although not a Death
Troopers sequel) which is due for release in October 2010;
Alex Irvine's Nomi Sunrider novel has been put back to February 2011
from October 2010; in October 2011 newcomer Jeff Grub will pen an,
as yet, untitled paperback; finally Sue teases of at least 5
unassigned novels - two for 2010 including one written by a "well-known
author", one for late 2011 and two for 2012.
Notable are the exceptions of Blood Oath and Karen
Traviss's previously scheduled Boba Fett novel - both are officially
cancelled. Unfortunately it appears that Elaine Cunningham is unable
to fulfil her contract while Karen has previously
intimated her decision to quit writing Star Wars novels.

Book News: Future Fate of
the Jedi novels to have "beefy subplots":
Posted: 13th August
Writing on the StarWars.com Message Boards, LucasBooks'
Executive Editor Sue Rostoni announced that a new novels release
schedule would be announced next week in which we've moved some
of the Fate of the
Jedi novels [...] to give the authors a bit more time
to write .... longer novels. This is because we conjured up a
few beefy subplots to add to the mix that are really going to
increase action, tension, and characters and wanted to be sure each
author has enough time to really develop and write the stories
without a lot of rush.
While the third Fate of
the Jedi novel, Abyss,
will be released next week, the fourth, Backlash,
is not due to be published for another six months, but it is
unlikely that Backlash's
release will be affected. It is more likely that the proposed
release changes will affect the expected release dates for books
five thru nine.

Book News: Karen Traviss quits
writing for Star Wars:
Posted: 9th August
Karen Traviss, New York Times Bestselling author of several Star
Wars books including Republic
Commando series and Legacy
of the Force: Sacrifice, is to quit writing Star Wars novels
after the second Imperial Commando novel (the
follow-up series to Republic
Commando) is released. In a statement on her
blog ,
Traviss cites new continuity issues arising from the forthcoming
Season 2 of The Clone Wars TV series "changes in
canon [discussed in] the new visual guide* to the second
season of the Clone Wars TV cartoon [...] I was given enough
of the detail in January to realise that changes in continuity were
such that I wouldn't be able to carry on as originally planned with
the storylines you were expecting to see continued in my books. It
would have required a lot more than routine retcon [...] The
canon is beyond my control, because that's the very nature of tie-in
work. But that still left me with some personal choices I had to
make. I could try to make the retcons. Or I could switch to
different SW books that weren't affected by these changes. Or I
could decide to call it a day - I had a great run, but I had an
increasing amount of non-SW work to get on with that was more
important to my business. In the end, the only rational decision I
could take was to make Imperial Commando #2 my last book for Star
Wars." You can read Karen's full statement on her
blog .
*Karen is more than likely referring to to The
Art of Star Wars: The Clone Wars rather than a new version of a Visual
Guide.

Book News: Synopsis revealed for The
Clone Wars: Gambit - Stealth:
Posted: 5th August
THIS NEWS ITEM CONTAINS
SPOILERS
Amazon.co.uk have posted a synopsis for Karen Miller's
forthcoming The Clone Wars novel, Gambit:
Stealth. The fourth book in this five novel series, it will
be the first part of a two part story featuring Anakin and Obi-Wan: Obi-Wan
Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker are on a secret mission to one of the
many worlds caught in the middle of the struggle between the
Republic and the Separatists. A pastoral planet, Lanteeb wants only
to be left alone to survive - but it is the source of what could be
one of the most devastatingly destructive weapons ever. If this
potential weapon were to fall into the hands of the Separatists,
uncounted worlds would fall. But should the Republic succeed in
destroying it first, one world that needs it to survive will be
annihilated. A frightening dilemma that Obi-Wan and Anakin will have
to untangle, if they can get in and out of the occupied planet
alive.

Book News: Extended synopsis
for Darth Bane: Dynasty of Evil:
Posted: 5th August
THIS NEWS ITEM CONTAINS
SPOILERS
RandomHouse.com have posted a new synopsis for Drew
Karpyshyn's third Darth Bane novel Dynasty
of Evil: Twenty years have passed since Darth Bane,
reigning Dark Lord of the Sith, demolished the ancient order devoted
to the dark side and reinvented it as a circle of two: one Master to
wield the power and pass on the wisdom, and one apprentice to learn,
challenge, and ultimately usurp the Dark Lord in a duel to the
death. But Bane’s acolyte, Zannah, has yet to engage her Master in
mortal combat and prove herself a worthy successor. Determined that
the Sith dream of galactic domination will not die with him, Bane
vows to learn the secret of a forgotten Dark Lord that will assure
the Sith’s immortality–and his own.
A perfect opportunity arises when a Jedi emissary is assassinated on
the troubled mining planet Doan, giving Bane an excuse to dispatch
his apprentice on a fact-finding mission–while he himself sets out
in secret to capture the ancient holocron of Darth Andeddu and its
precious knowledge. But Zannah is no fool. She knows that her
ruthless Master has begun to doubt her, and she senses that he is
hiding something crucial to her future. If she is going to claim the
power she craves, she must take action now.
While Bane storms the remote stronghold of a fanatical Sith cult,
Zannah prepares for her Master’s downfall by choosing an
apprentice of her own: a rogue Jedi cunning and cold-blooded enough
to embrace the Sith way and to stand beside her when she at last
wrests from Bane the mantle of Dark Lord of the Sith.
But Zannah is not the only one with the desire and power to destroy
Darth Bane. Princess Serra of the Doan royal family is haunted by
memories of the monstrous Sith soldier who murdered her father and
tortured her when she was a child. Bent on retribution, she hires a
merciless assassin to find her tormentor–and bring him back alive
to taste her wrath.
Only a Sith who has taken down her own Master can become Dark Lord
of the Sith. So when Bane suddenly vanishes, Zannah must find him–possibly
even rescue him–before she can kill him. And so she pursues her
quarry from the grim depths of a ravaged world on the brink of
catastrophe to the barren reaches of a desert outpost, where the
future of the dark side’s most powerful disciples will be decided,
once and for all, by the final, fatal stroke of a lightsaber.
This new synopsis extends the short synopsis previously
published by StarWars.com.
